Carmelo Rodero
Bodegas Rodero is located in Pedrosa de Duero at the heart of the Ribera del Duero designation of origin, a specific region in Spain with exceptional characteristics for making world-class quality wine.
Carmelo Rodero is part of the fourth generation of a family with deep winemaking roots in this land. He decided to seize the initiative and strike out on his own. His first wine to hit the market was from the 1991 vintage. Every year since then his wines have been highly acclaimed by specialist critics.
Carmelo currently owns 103 ha of wisely chosen plots in different areas. The average age of the vines is 30 years: the youngest are 10 years old, whilst the oldest are more than 70 years old. The native variety tinta del país (tempranillo) occupies the lion’s share of the area 85%, followed by cabernet sauvignon 10% and merlot 5%. The growing techniques strive to achieve the maximum concentration in each grape, never exceeding 3.500 Kg/ha, and they are carefully selected before they reach the tanks.
Carmelo Rodero wines get their character from a combination of two essential factors: the unique characteristics of the terrior and the total efforts of wine producer and his family: Elena, his wife, and their children, Beatriz and María.
Carmelo patented and built a fermenting room to enable him to tease the very best out of his grapes using only gravity, without the need for pumps.
Carmelo Rodero wines: Select Vintage, TSM, Valtarreña, Reserva, Aging, Young and Young Oak.
